Educating the next generation of advocates is core to our values as a profession and chapter. Each year, we host our annual Legislative Education & Advocacy Day (LEAD) day which brings together hundreds of social work students and professionals from across the state in our state capital of Trenton.
LEAD is designed to further social workers’ knowledge of the legislative process, grassroots advocacy, and major current statewide policy initiatives. Attendees hear from an array of passionate speakers from elected officials, the government sector, community organizers, and advocates.
Our past speakers have included Congresswoman Bonny Watson Coleman, and Assemblywoman Joann Downey. As a bi-partisan event, we are always looking for passionate advocates and speakers. If you know someone who would like to speak or that you feel would be an inspiration, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact our Directory of Advocacy at (732) 296-8070.
